 Textile News in Moscow (27 - 29 September 2009):

By the end of June 2009: "Could you imagine to present Textile News at Moscow in September?" Mr Eibisch, Area Manager East Europe and Russian Federation of BERNINA Int. AG, is ringing me up from Moscow where he is just showing the Textile News CD. The ladies of the Russian National House of Folk Arts are thrilled. ... and I agree and accept the invitation.

To close the All-Russia festival of decorative art "Patchwork Mosaic of Russia 2009", three further textile artists from Prague (Renata Stehlinova) and Riga (Aina Muze und Elina Lusis-Grinberga) have been invited. They also will have exhibitions as well as workshops.

The exhibition venue of Textile News is Gallery Belyaevo.  500 visitors come within three days and a half. The gallery is already showing (for the first time) a wide range of quilts and textile objects, the best pieces selected of the All-Russia festival. Textile News - the display attractively arranged - is a lovely addition as well as extension of the whole ensemble.

After having opened Textile News there are many opportunities to talk with the Russian quilters and to make contacts. Their questions concern mainly how to use non-textile materials and also the possibilities of other textile techniques as well as how to organise challenges.

During my workshops all students are working very attentively. We are experimenting with fusible webbing and testing the different possibilities. Three hours are quite short!

"Are there any work stations available for workshop 2?" – sorry, no. Again students make notes of matters that are the most important for them and apply immediately.

We have also enough time for culture, sightseeing and personal matters:

Many thanks go to Mr Eibisch and Lena (BERNINA), Julia Iwanova (Russian National House of Folk Arts), Thomas (Gallery Belyaevo) and to Rita Serzhantova, the best interpreter of all!

5 - 8 November 2009 in Budapest:

The Hungarian Guild celebrated its 20th anniversary with different exhibitons, workshops and lots of visitors. The guild hosted a number of quilts coming from different European countries and had a wide range of works made by Hungarian quilters as well as the Pascale Goldenberg-project on display. "Textile News" was invited as well as "The Colours of a Country", the this year's challenge of Val d'Argent.

The venue was the Hungarian Cultural Foundation, located at Szentháromság ter. This is also the square in front of Matthias Church that is located in Buda, the hilly urban quarter. From there we enjoyed a wonderful view over the Danube, the Chain Bridge, Parliament and Pest.

Prague Patchwork Meeting 2010

April 9 - 11, 2010:  4th Prague Patchwork Meeting was held in Prague. I had accepted very gladly an invitation from Jana Sterbova, the event organiser, to present Textile News at the international meeting.

An event like this is the only one hold in Czech Republic - in this April already for the fourth time. Numerous local patchwork clubs had the opportunity to display their work.

Please click on an image to enlarge it!

It is of special importance to gain international textile artists for teaching as well as for exhibiting their work. Solo-Exhibitions had Eszter Bornemisza from Budapest (Hungary) as well as Jacqueline Heinz from Wolfenbuettel (Germany). Both of them showed a wide range of quilts - very well worth seeing.

Helene Fischer (Germany) and Rita Berghuis (The Netherlands) represented the German-Dutch Group "MeerArt". They came to Prague to have about 30 quilts from their project „Mensch und Meer“ on display for the very last time.

The city of Prague is an attractive destination - really a pleasant and interesting journey.

May 13 - 16, 2010: Textile News within the 4th International Quilt-Festival in Wilwerwiltz (Luxembourg).

The exhibition venue was at Centre Culturel at Enscheringen - very convenient. To open the festival Antoinette Lutgen-Lentz made a humorous speech the night before. Artists, exhibitors as well as a lot of local quilt makers used the opportunity to come into contact or to renew acquaintance with old friends like Britta Ankenbauer (D).

August 3 - September 11, 2010: Textile News was invited to participate in "Quiltgasse", an exhibition held in the old city center of Bern, organised by Regula Emmenegger. Her quilt shop "Stoff-Keller" as well as some more shops nearby hosted the exhibits. The showcases were lovely!

Under the umbrella of the museum works also a quilt club that made an effort to get the exhibition on display. Kindly supported by BERNINA the exhibits were shipped safely to the Arctic Circle (and back) where Textile News sparked a furore.
